Methamphetamine, or meth, also known as "speed," "crystal," "crank," "ice," or "tina," is a potent psycho (mental)-stimulant that can be taken as pills, snorted, injected or smoked. There is much speculation about the problem of meth abuse and its origins. Some believe it started after World War II, and probably it did. It is used in diet pills and various other medications to help resolve issues of insufficient energy to perform a day's work. Things such as asthma medication contain ephedrine which is one of the constituents of meth and, during the last two decades, more prevalently and possibly the main culprit contributing to such an enormous jump in the meth abuse statistics, is the commonly prescribed ADHD meds.

The problem with ADHD meds is that youngsters have access to and become drug dealers at a very young age, selling their "speed" to friends and school mates so the problem of addiction is starting at an extremely young age, right in the school grounds. All they have to do is crush the tablets and ingest them in any of the ways, previously mentioned. The result in the classroom can be and is catastrophic and that's the start of meth abuse. It heralds the end of absorption of data and the start of absorption of a substance.

Think of a time when you had too much alcohol or some or other medication. Could you concentrate on the job at hand? I think not. It's difficult to concentrate, which now makes you a target to be prescribed something to "make you alert". As drugs don't make you alert and you have to pay attention in class, you get the syndrome of "the dog chasing it's tale". The problem won't resolve and now your kid is getting a prescription for a legal "drug". No difference.

Prolonged meth abuse can result in a tolerance for the drug and increased use at higher dosage levels, creating dependence. The continued use of the drug, with little or no sleep, leads to an extremely irritable and paranoid state. To suddenly stop using meth can lead to depression, fatigue, apathy, inability to think and use one's innate intelligence, paranoia, anxiety, insomnia, convulsions and, eventually, brain damage. Not a pretty picture. Meth abuse can leave one feeling hopeless and in despair. Don't despair. Speed, pardon the pun, is of the essence before further brain damage occurs. Something can and should be done about it.

Possibly one has already tried to resolve the meth abuse before and failed. The major reason for failure is just selecting the wrong program for the addict. This too is understandable as there is so much information out there and misinformation abounds.

There is a way to determine which program will do the job. It's simple, really, once you know how. The first step is to ensure that the program does a withdrawal program that is comfortable for the addict. No cold turkey. That's agony.

Once the addict is through withdrawal, the next key issue would be to ensure that a full meth detox is undertaken without the introduction of further drugs. We certainly don't need to add a new "fix" to the list and create a new reason for rehab. Key components of a properly done meth detox program would include the use of a sauna, the proper oils, vitamins and minerals, run and administered very closely by properly trained staff. Once the person is free of the meth and other toxic residues, he is now and only now ready for the final steps of rehabilitation. This should include establishing with the person why they started off on that road in the first place. As no-one but he knows the reason, it is very harmful for someone to tell him what to think and give him reasons. He will not recover if this is done.

It is so important to his recovery that it cannot be emphasized enough. The reason for this is that the correct reason will allow rehabilitation to occur fully as the steps that are taken after meth detox include him studying the data needed and then resolving his reasons for himself by himself. It cannot work any other way. Think of a time when someone told you what was wrong with you and how you felt and started to think about yourself. No-one knows but the individual himself.

In February of 2009, an article published in the Dallas Morning News told the story of a north Texas family that became unwitting victims of the illegal drug trade. The Rodgriquez family purchased a home in Grapevine that had previously been in foreclosure and promptly moved in with their three children. But it soon became apparent that something was wrong. As the article states, soon after they moved into their new home, the family's dog began experiencing seizures and ultimately had to be euthanized. Subsequent tests of the home revealed that several rooms and the attic were contaminated with traces of methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine contamination is more common than you might think; and the problem is not limited to houses. Vehicles, hotel rooms, apartments and storage units are frequently used to manufacture methamphetamine, creating health hazards for unsuspecting future inhabitants.

Although meth is made from legally available, relatively common household substances, the manufacturing or "cooking" process releases highly toxic fumes and residues. Acute exposure to these contaminants, such as police officers encounter when they first enter a meth lab, can result in burns to the skin and severe lung damage. Longer term exposure to even small amounts of these contaminants can cause breathing problems, eye irritation, skin irritation, nausea, dizziness and headaches.

Once a meth lab has been dismantled, many of these contaminants remain-on walls, in carpets and in ventilation systems. And meth doesn't have to have been manufactured in a home for the home to become contaminated. Heavy meth use by previous residents can also leave behind traces of the toxic substance, exposing future inhabitants to health risks from exposure.

Although laws in many states require sellers or their agents to disclose any known use or manufacture of meth within a home, the activity often goes unreported. If chemical residue related to the manufacture or use of methamphetamine is detected, extensive and specialized clean-up is necessary. It is recommended that the property be thoroughly aired out-for several days at a time-and cleaned by a company specializing in hazardous materials removal. Ventilation systems should be cleaned and all filters replaced. If visible staining or odors are present in carpets, drapes and other soft surfaces, replacement may be necessary. If not, all soft surfaces should be cleaned thoroughly to remove any dusts, powders and vapors from the materials used in meth manufacture. In most cases, walls and ceilings will need to be cleaned, and a new coat of paint applied to create a barrier between any residual contaminant and the air inside the home.

Because it is certainly better to be safe than sorry when it comes to potential health hazards in the home, re-testing for meth-related residues is recommended after a thorough cleaning has been completed.

Whenever we hear something on the news about the "war against drugs," meth is almost always mentioned as well. We hear about how badly it is spreading. For those of you who are around meth then you know that it is spreading throughout our neighborhood, our friends, even spreading to our kids. Whether it is spreading or not, is it really as dangerous as they say? Is it really a cause for concern? We will cover the 3 main problems of meth and why we should do everything in our power to stop its spread.

Meth is one of the most addicting substances on the planet; many experts consider it the most addicting. The main, of many, reasons for why meth, speed, crank, tweak, crack (crank mixed with cocaine)and crystal meth (all of these are different names for the same thing) is so addicting is the severe and long recovery. The coming down (recovery) process lasts 12 to 24 hours, depending on how long you tweaked (was high on meth) straight (typically 3 to 7 days.) During this excruciating 12 - 24 hours you generally cannot sleep, even though your whole being starts to feel like you've been awake forever. Remember how your knees start to hurt when you are starting to get to the 24 hour mark of no sleep? Imagine that 7 times worse and not just on your knees, but all over your body. During this whole time the only thing that you are thinking about is "How do I get rid of this feeling?" You can't sleep it away. Weed can help sooth some of it out, but not by much.

Of course if you do make it past this stage the mental and physical addiction is so strong that pretty much the next time you get some money in your hands, you instantly forget how horrible it was to come down because you remember that you enjoyed the high so much more.

This is the typical experience that a tweaker (a person who is addicted to meth) has when he is coming down. What about someone who has never done meth before? Will they have a different experience? Sadly, the answer is yes. The first time you do tweak, it is perhaps one of the more enjoyable experiences ever. This is of course determined by your environment also. If you are downtown hanging out with friends, having a good time and this is where your first time is, you will get a high that you will hunger for, for the rest of the time that you are tweaking and even your life. Your first time, you are more sociable, picking up chicks or guys will seem so easy, you have the energy to take on the whole world, and you just feel great all over.

Your recovery? Yes, the first time there is a very little, if it can be called that, recovery. The reason why is because your body is still able to normally produce endorphins and therefore compensates when you start to withdraw. The whole point is that the first time you felt great with little to no consequence, not to mention that the first time it was probably free. These all point to you likely trying the stuff again. Meth is perhaps the only drug that most of the people who try it become addicted after using it just one time. And if that was not enough, one of the truly unique things about a meth addiction is that with other drugs, when you are done with the high, you feel guilt for using them.

Not so with meth, with meth you actually feel great for doing it because you get so accomplished. You worked harder at work; you cleaned your house; fixed every conceivable thing that could be fixed, or while trying to fix it, broke it so bad that it could only be thrown out; you did all of the things that a "good" person would do. This means that there is no guilt, in fact you feel like you discovered the secret that could help you achieve all of those insurmountable goals that you have; you feel like everyone else is a dope, but you are somehow special, that you are in control, and you are only using it to help you achieve your worthy objectives. What a lie. You end up wasting that time, and instead of moving forward in your life you seriously take a few steps back, you are not somehow special and you are just addicted as the next guy...just try quitting and you'll see. I don't mean to make this sound any worse, but one other thing...official records state that 90% of those who do actually quit crank, go back to doing it again and again and again.

Meth will cause permanent brain damage. This may seem like such an empty statement, anymore, because it seems like half the stuff in this world will somehow damage your brain. However this stuff does it in a really nasty way. First of all you are pretty much guaranteed that when you finally mange to quit tweaking within just a year or two, pretty much all of your experiences during those three years are erased you will only remember a few of your most memorable of memories, and even that is foggy. On top of that you begin to function at only a fraction of what you were able to do before you started tweaking, intellectually. You will be slower at figuring out math problems, literacy becomes an issue, crudely said, you become stupider. On top of that a significant percentage of the people permanently stop producing dopamine, the chemical that is responsible for your body's natural high. Without dopamine, clinically you are considered depressed, which makes it that much harder to quit in the first place, but even worse; you will suffer the consequences of your mistake for the rest of your life.

Meth will destroy your life, both physically and socially. Just listen to this true story of someone who used to be a meth addict "... is still badly brain damaged and locked into brain-induced psychosis - another way of saying schizophrenia. He also has Hepatitis C which will eventually kill him, because of the nasty life his addiction lead him into (male prostitution included)." Or another interesting fact, "meth users might form open sores that ooze. These sores are commonly referred to as speed bugs or crank bugs. The sores are formed when the unabsorbed toxins from taking high amounts of meth are being rejected by the user's body and emitted through the skin. Heavy users may experience the feeling that bugs are "crawling" under their skin. The user can severely injure themselves by scratching, digging or cutting at their skin trying to get the imaginary bugs out of their skin." These are just a few of the ugly sides of crank. The anti-meth pictures you see on the billboards don't commonly get that bad, but the sad fact is that they are still very true. If you are someone close to a user, it is best to see them as a person who is driven by another evil force. They may be themselves when they are around you, although a bit withdrawn, but inside they are really hurting and are desperate. Meth fills the void for them, temporarily. Yet, it is like filling a hole in the ice with hot water, the only thing it does is make the hole bigger and bigger. You should have pity for them, even if they steal your money, even if they make you really upset; but don't you dare for one second excuse their behavior or even worse enable it. They are ultimately responsible for their life and need to pay for their own consequences, no matter how terribly it may cost them. If you are dealing with this situation then I ask that the God of heaven gives you the wisdom and the strength to get through this very difficult time in your life.

I love Facebook - truly. Depending on your intentions, it can be everything from a singles bar, to an online portfolio, to a group discussion, or just a plain old bullshit session online. I travel a lot (I mean A LOT) and most of the time I'm there are no friends or family with me. Facebook gives me a way to have a semi-intelligent conversation, make a few online friends that I hope to meet one day in person, or just get online for a few minutes and swap dirty jokes/videos from YouTube.

I am Facebook friends with an MD who lives on the opposite coast from me. Never met the man; I don't know that I ever will. I can tell he's very passionate about helping people and we recently shared an exchange about crystal meth and what it's doing to people. I dropped my two-cents on his wall as a reply, and since then I've been thinking about addictions, alcoholism and perceptions. Rather than post all of this to his wall, I'll make it my first entry for ezines.

If I make it a few more months, I'll celebrate 22 years of sobriety. I find it nothing short of astounding to be able to say that. I identify as an alcoholic for simplicity's sake: I didn't discriminate when it came to using. If I thought it was going to get me going, then I tried it. Me and DOW, Incorporated: Better living through chemicals. While my post is going to be about addiction and crystal meth, I'll be tossing around the word alcoholism pretty liberally. To me, "alcoholism" and "addiction" are redundant and interchangeable.

A few years ago, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of medical students about alcoholism. Now, to be clear: I am NOT an MD. I have an EMT that I got many, many years ago and I keep my certifications current. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on television. I was invited to talk to these students from the perspective of a recovering alcoholic and looking at the disease from the perception of an alcoholic. Medicine can do wonders for an alcoholic. A decade or so of drinking and using can take its toll on the body and by the time you're ready to throw in the towel it is going to take some time on the reassembly line to get put back together.

Here's the punch line I shared with the assembled masses:
As an alcoholic, my problem is not alcohol.

How's that for a show-stopper? You could have heard a pin drop when I threw that one out there and I'm sure there was more than one person wondering if my sobriety time was indeed intact. If, as an alcoholic my problem was alcohol, then detox centers would turn out winners 24/7/365. Simply stopping drinking would be enough. Put the bottle away, say goodbye to my favourite watering holes and begin life anew - right? If that logic were true, why do so many people return to drinking? They know they have a problem. They might be in hot water at work; their family situation may be tenuous. And still they keep at it - over and over and over again. I've personally witnessed people keep going at it just one more time to the exclusion of all else, and often with tragic results. Their families leave for good, they get fired from one more job or worse; they wind up dead. Everybody I got sober with at the skid-row mission I cleaned up at is dead. They all decided to try it one more time, and none of them survived.

Why do alcoholics and addicts do this? It's intellectually astounding, isn't it? You put Humpty Dumpty back together again in the ER for the 8^th time, talk to him about his drinking and using, and he swears it will never happen again. You believe him when he tells you this too. The alcoholic believes it when he's saying it!

So, what is the fix? It's so simple; it'll blow your mind. If the alcoholic doesn't do something to change their perceptions of reality while they are not drinking, then they will drink again. Eventually, stopping drinking - by itself - makes life such a painful, untenable state of being that the alcoholic will drink again just to numb down the feelings that they've never dealt with sober. This is the answer why you almost never see a case of alcoholic psychosis; it's almost as rare as bubonic plague. Why? Because when life becomes so unbearable and reality so painful, the alcoholic will drink just to make the pain disappear. The same can be said for any addict - any substance you're choosing.

Alcohol for me, changes my perception of reality - the same can be said for any drunk, really. The vast majority of my friends are not alcoholics, and I can drink them under the table any day of the week. Drink for drink, shot for shot, I could take any of them on. They are going to get buzzed. For me, alcoholic changes the reality of my world; the buzz is just a perk. One drink for me, and I'm better looking, funnier, I fit in more. One drink for me and what I'm feeling inside matches the outsides of the people around me. Insecurities vanish, paranoia disappears. I've altered my perception of reality with two fingers of tequila, or a hit off my bong, crack pipe, or whatever I happen paraphernalia I happen to be using at the time.

Meth addicts are no doubt physically addicted to the substance - no question about it. But there is also their altered perceptions of reality that have to be addressed or they will use again. I'd bet my life on it, and I do so every day of the week that I stay clean and sober.

Hi, I have a sister, her daughter , and one of her sons, and my brother , who are all addicted to meth. My 19yr old neice is about to have her third child, which will undoubtedly be taken from her immeidiatly, as she overdosed , shooting up, during her first six weeks of pregnancy.

Tonight my 48 yr old brother is lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life, he has staph infection from 'picking' and double pneumonia, and fell and broke his hip several days ago but would not go to the hospital because he was tweaking. Now he is inchoherant, delirious, has a blueish tint to his face and hands, blood clots in his lungs, and when he looks at you the pain you see is unbearable. It is not from the physical aspect, he has no life in his eyes and hasn't for a while now.

My sister is almost as bad as him, and would not report his condition until he was found with a puddle of blood on his chest that he coughed up. The devastation of meth is profound. I smoked it when it first 'came out', but never saw the appeal of staying awake day after day doing essentially nothing important. I did not like what I saw around me when I stopped, and made sure no meth came into my home again, and I am fighting to help what is left of our family, and to keep the other young ones in the family away from meth.

I have successfully intervened with another neice and continue to educate her as often as I can, I am sure this experience with her uncle will add to her knowledge of why NOT to do meth. Peace , not Meth

Parents simply must inform themselves, regardless of how well adjusted and well behaved their kids may be. Even the honor roll student is not immune to the persuasive powers of this powerful drug called meth.

Early Symptoms of Meth Usage or Addiction
The early symptoms or signs of meth usage and addiction are the signs that can be tricky. Teens are by nature moody, and can be angry little buggers. That said, it is important to not simply dismiss these actions as typical teen behavior. While they may be completely benign, they may also be a signal that something is wrong. Here are a number of early warning signs of possible meth addiction or usage:

Sleep disruption - Teens are likely to stay up late and sleep in during the day on weekends, but if you notice a change in the baseline behavior you should look into it. When a teen is on meth, they are likely to stay up for days on end, and then go through periods of sleeping continuously as well.

Nervousness - Another key sign of a problem with meth is when your teen is constantly fidgeting. "Ants in the pants" is a good way to describe this behavior and your teen may nervously pick at their skin as well.

Avoidance of Family - Meth addicts usually will avoid contact with loved ones due to the secrecy of the addiction, and the cover up of symptoms or tracks. The emotional toll this takes on the teen meth addict is devastating.
Finding paraphernalia - If you are finding pipes, or other unexplained drug paraphernalia, there is a good chance that your teen is using. Do not accept the "I only did it once" excuse.

Teens who are addicted to meth are very sneaky and capable liars. They know how to get around you as the drive for the drug far exceeds their concerns about right and wrong. Once addicted, the teen meth user will steal, lie, and do anything to procure the meth. It is vital that you recognize the signs early, before your teen is severely addicted. Once they are addicted, the road to recovery is not guaranteed. Meth is very powerful, and you must be proactive in your parenting duties to catch it very early to give your teen a chance.

Recently however, people are starting their own labs here in the United States. Methamphetamine has become a vast problem in the United States and is growing in popularity in other areas of the world. Meth use has overtaken Cocaine use in the Midwest and accounts for more drug related deaths than Cocaine in the last three years. Oklahoma now has Meth as its drug of choice.
As far back as 1999, a whopping 9.4 million adults admitted to having tried Meth at least once. The fastest growing group of Meth users is in the 18-25 age range. It only takes one use of Meth to become addicted. Meth is an insidious drug and works by impersonating the chemicals produced in the brain for pleasure. Meth produces more of these chemicals to be released at one time and this is what causes the high or the rush that is experienced when a person first ingests Meth.
Once a person experiences this high they develop a need to feel it again and again and go in search of that first rush, which unfortunately will never be repeated.
But why do people first get involved in drug use, particularly meth?
That is a question that many families and friends of addicts ask.
It is a tough question to answer as it has to do more with a person's sense of self and their level of self respect than anything else and the root cause is often a need to feel better or different.
Meth does not cause any physical withdrawal symptoms but it is an addiction that is deeply rooted in the psyche, making it hard to break and there are often many relapses.

Meth addiction and its treatment will need to involve help from professionals such as substance abuse advisors and doctors. Family and friends are also encouraged to become involved in the addicts treatment and recovery as they will need a lot of support to overcome meth addiction.

There are numerous formulas used to synthesize methamphetamine. Most processes are dependant on availability of mass chemicals. Because the structures of ephedrine and methamphetamine are very related, a lot of recipes are fashioned to take out a bound oxygen and hydrogen atom from the ephedrine and replace it with hydrogen. The entire area of an illicit methamphetamine laboratory should be considered significantly contaminated with the drug itself. One study accounted wipe sample concentrations as high as 16,000 micrograms per 100 square centimeters (µg/100cm²).

So, what about those "do-it-yourself" wipe tests that you can buy online? NOT recommended for several reasons. First and foremost is safety. It's not recommended that ANYONE set foot inside a potentially contaminated property unless trained and certified by OSHA in Hazardous Materials handling. Finally, those tests for the most part will give you only a +/- for the presence of the meth molecule and will tell you nothing as to the levels of meth that are present.

A positive test may occur in places where meth has been used, as well as manufactured. This test is for the actual residue of the drug alone. It does not screen for chemicals used in the fabrication or those that are produced in the process. A positive test tells you simply to proceed with caution and doesn't really help to paint a picture as to what needs to be done to resolve the problem.

This is serious business and it's important that you bring in someone that is qualified to handle this for you. Meth labs are no longer restricted to the rural areas of America. They have now infiltrated suburbia. Meth cooks are capitalizing on the kind and harmless "image" suburbs provide and using them as a means of screening their dangerous and illegal operations.

Ruined by Meth

Hello people. My name is Wayne and im an ex user from drugs who was on almost everything drug related, but meth was my conclusion to my destruction. Got 2 1/2 yrs of clean time on my belt from meth but it doesnt even feel like a f**king day, an hour, 30 minutes with out gettting some kind of thought from it. I just want peace from it but i know i cant get that because of the physical and mental problems i received from abusing it.

Had my life infront of me and i let it take it away from me so easily, like i wanted it to and had no say over it but did because i had a choice like all of us do, do good or, do bad...Im 26 and feel like im in my middle 30's inside. Im so beat up from all those nights staying awake and wasteing my life away. Rather then going to class to learn how to cook, id rather be in my dorm room in frisco smokeing meth and trying to find a girl to have sex with all night. Just to say that kills me because its ugly and i became ugly, disgusting to probably have people not want to be around me because i see it when i look in the mirror and tell myself i hate you when i wish i didnt because i say that because i want my life back, like that movie the Shawshank Redemption when Morgan says in close to the end, "I just want things to make sense again so i wont have to feel scared all the time" <--- what it exactly says yo! I hate feeling so scared.

Just f**king scared to wake up and except the next day when i was never expecting it to be ok because i wasnt ok, because i was so high and took modivation away, grow to be someone, leave the child and grow to be an adult, successful, just happy and not scared all the time. My shadow people still haunt me at night and i cant believe it..maybe its from the nights and still not being able to get a good nights rest because im so lost in my mind, so many thoughts on my mind from the past of my war on drugs till now, staying clean, fighting for my sobriety, trying to keep a job in these tough times, have friends, REAL friends, have family love me for who i am someday which they cant and i dont blame them.

Drugs dont just hurt me, they hurt them so much, cry just like me at night when i was down fallin and i would call them so jittery, worry them, bring hell to not just me, to them at thier door steps and its something hard to get over for many out their, like mine i see everyday. I look so beat up still, fatigued, weight gain, like im eating my cravings away so much, contantly. Id rather eat then pick up that bubble i'll tell you that much, but the weight needs fixing.

Tryin to get my own place again so i can have my peace from my mom and how i burden her it seems like when i have to live here. She worries and i dont blame her. Get my place when i have money saved and a job on the side to keep it, like i know i can because ive been doing. Just the economy and the way it is kicked me out of Bend, OR, lost my small business with my business partner and had to move because he was upset to have me for a roomate i guess, took it hard, who knows? I alone, had friends their, had a life taking away when i was making one but nothing never works out how you want it to, like you have no controll of the next day, week, month, shit just happens, that famous quote..i just need peace people!

I want to be able to wake up and feel ok. I cant believe what meth and my addictions have done to me and i wish every god dame day i could take it all back because i wouldnt be struggleing so bad, i could get my life back!

For those of you struggleing to stay clean, or still using and want to get off the shit know you are not alone if you feel like you are and know one understands because i do...stop now before its to late for you, save anything you got left in you thats still human because your body is crying inside and whats you to help it.

i will never do it again, the insanity from it i got and everyday is so hard now....do your body a favor and give it a chance, people a chance again, it will be worth it in the long run because we might find that happiness that drugs, specially meth in my opinion cant give us. So I have been reading the stories on this site for about a year now. So many times I have thought about telling my story. But I wonder if I can remember enough. All I know is when I write it down I want to give creedance to how it really was back then. I want for someone to read my story and really get it and feel it because being on meth is no joke and most people who start don't quit. Because once you start meth will take your soul.

They say that marijuana is a gateway drug and I remember I used to laugh when I heard that. Now I believe it's true. My mom had me when she was 15 years old and she did the best she could. But she had several bad marriages that were filled with physical abuse, drugs and alcohol. I was the oldest child and I guess I felt responsible for my mom. It caused me to feel like I had no control in my life. I met my very first best friend in 5th grade our parents used drugs together and we were inseperable. It was that year that we started drinking, smoking weed and taking Codiene if her step dad would give it to us.

Around the time that I went to high school my mom and step dad got off drugs and changed their lives. By then I think it was probably too late for me. Little did I know at that time that I was the perfect canidate to be an addict. I had alot of pain and pent up anger that I wanted to medicate. During high school I continued to smoke weed and even did Acid a few times. But didn't like the feeling of not being in control. I met a guy that was here from Texas going to motorcycle repair school. He was so cute and we hit it off right away. We did well for quite a while and he got along with all my friends. Then one night out of the blue I find out that he is dealing meth and that my best friend knew it and had been doing it for quite a while.

I guess I felt a little naive at that point. I didn't end up doing it that night but it didn't matter cuz soon after I did start using. I can still remember who I was with, what I was wearing and every detail of that first night I ever snorted a line. After I did I felt like the best energy or so I thought. I wasn't shy anymore I loved going out and meeting people. I never ate or drank anything. And for a girl as skinny as I was to begin with that was just bad. My family quickly figured out what I was doing and wouldn't allow it. They kicked me out and I moved in with my best friend and her heroin addicted mother. By this time I was fully addicted to meth. I ended up getting pregnant by a guy that I would never have given the time of day if it had not been for the drugs. He was strung out too and couldn't even make it to my first doctor's appointment. I stopped using and did well for most of my pregnancy until the end. I snorted a line on 2 different occassions. After a night of being up all night I went into labor the next morning. I had my daughter in less than 2 hours. I am so lucky that she did not come up with meth in her system and she was healthy.

When I was about 3 months pregnant I met up with a friend from my past and he asked me out. I was so excited and after dating for a while I knew I was in love. We got married soon after my daughter was born. I tried to be a good wife and there were times I did well but mostly I used off and on. I forgot to mention my husband is a recovering meth addict and hates the stuff. So we split up several times. I ended up getting my own apartment on section 8 where i didn't have to pay any rent. Soon all my addict friends were living with me and I was so out of control. I thought at the time I was being a good parent because I fed my daughter bathed her and spent all my time with her. But i wasn't bonding with her because I couldn't feel anything. Literally you couldn't make me cry about anything back then. By this time I had gone from snorting to smoking to shooting dope. My mom and dad filed a petition for dependency. Meaning my daughter is too young to speak for herself and they were tying to take custody of her.

I rememeber the night before Court I had been up all night and was planning on going to Court and fighting for my child to come home. But one of my addict friends told me to look around and think if it's really best for her. It was the hardest choice I ever had to make but I let my mom and dad have temporary custody. I got clean 2 months later and reunited with my husband. We had to go through CPS to get my daughter back. We did drug tests for a year. One on one Counseling, Parenting Classes. You name it we did it. It was worth it and I got my daughter back. I got pregnant with my second daughter in 1997 and I had a great job. I was on the right track. I don't remember how it started again but soon I was doing the dope again. Lying to my husband and being secretive. I did this for years getting clean for a while and then falling back.

The Next Chapter: My husband and I had just bought our first home. We both had great jobs two brand new vehicles and a camper. Life was so good until I ran into the old best friend after not seeing her for many years. Soon I started meeting other people who lived close to me that used meth as well. I lived in a nice house in a nice neighborhood but it seemed like every where I turned was someone I knew. This time I started smoking meth. I know how bad shooting dope is but nothing has affected me like smoking it. I have always had the best memory and now I don't hardly remember anything. I started sneaking out in the middle of the night. I would say i'm going to the store and not come home for days not even thinking about what my kids were doing. I sold things out of our house. My husband tried to kick me out but I wouldn't leave.

By that time we had both gotten verbally and physically abusive with each other. He tried everything to get me to stop. I remember when he would tell me he's going to leave me I would feel like my whole world was ending. I loved him and my kids more than anything. And everytime I cried and promised him I would never do it again I really believed myself because I wanted to stop so badly I didn't want to lose my family. Finally after a huge fight where I flipped out in front of my kids throwing tables across the room he took the kids and left me. I just went into my self hate even more. I had non stop people in and out of my house. I soon started cheating on my husband with a guy I felt accepted me for who I was and could put the needle in my arm for me. I was the type of tweaker that didn't like having alot of people come around but it didn't matter I would tell people not to come and they would anyways banging on your door till you answer.

Some of the people I met back then scare me to death. I was so stupid, trusting and naive I thought everyone was my friend. All the while they were stealing everything in my house and I was so high I didn't even notice. I let a so called friend and his girl friend stay with me after he convinced me that he would help keep some of the people away. Boy was I stupid it only got worse and when I told him and his girlfriend to move out he stuck his gun in my face and said I don't think so. That was the night I started having panic attacks. I locked myself in my room packed as much as I could and the next morning he told me he wanted me to get him a $150 out of the bank. He had intimidated me so much at this point he thought I would do whatever he said. I took my stuff and never went back home.

My husband saved my butt and went and put his own life in danger and threw them out. We sold our house in Sept 2005 and I got $25,000 back. So I moved me and my little boyfriend into a hotel where we shot up about an eight ball a day. I mostly hid out not wanting people around. But it never worked out that way. Everone was after me and wanted something from me. I was getting threats all over from people wanting to rob me. I had to keep moving and it was so scary. I was a mess with bruises all over my body from shooting drugs. I couldn't trust anyone at all.

I will never forget how even with all those people around me how lonely it felt. So I blew through this money in about 2 months and then started calling my husband for money so I could have a place to stay. He knew I was with another guy and he would still help me out. Eventually the boyfriend got busted on some warrents and went to prison for a year. I kept using for several months after that. This whole time I would hardly think about my kids much less talk to them. I forgot to mention that when I was living in my house and using I would read my Bible. I felt like such a hypocrite reading it while high but I figured it was when I needed God the most. I begged God to let me see this drug for what it really is. I wanted to comprehend how nasty meth is and what is was doing to my body.

I prayed for help because I was not in control at all. I was living in the Budget Suites in Dec 2005 and talking to my husband off and on all through this time he was devastated by what I was doing. He would beg me to stop and come back to him and I would just tell him no. Then he got into Counseling and he told me I need to make a decision because he's not going to wait around for ever. My my litle sister got Cancer and I wasn't even there for her when she had surgery. I felt horrible about myself. Also during this week we lost 2 people that were really close friends of ours. It made me realize life is short. I was a victim for a long time because of what had happened in my childhood. I chose to be a victim because it gave me an excuse to use.

Then one day the light bulb just went off and I realized that I dont have to be a victim forever. I can choose to take control of my life. On Jan 8th 2006 I got clean I let go of everyone from my past. My husband and I reconciled and I got my girls back. When I went home I weighed 96 pounds. I never looked back from that day. God did hear my prayers and He changed my heart. I never have the urge to use and as a matter of fact God gave me exactly what I asked for. I despise meth and the thought of it makes me ill. I'm going on 4 years now and every year gets easier. The memories from the past are the hardest thing to deal with. My heart hurts sometimes when I hear a certain song that reminds me or a place. And not because I miss it but because I ever went through it.

So if anyone reads this please take my word for it and dont ever try meth. Just one time it will own your soul and turn you into someone you don't even recognize. And if you are still using just know there is hope. You dont have to be held in those chains of addiction. Something that was a lifesaver to me was My Recovery Book (that's the name of it) I have read it front to back several times and I also keep journals. I never used to be consistent but I am on my 4th journal. I love looking back and seeing how I progressed. Even if you have lost everything and have burned every bridge it's never too late. You can get clean and get back what you lost if I can do it so can you... God Bless Sorry it's so long...

Hi my name is Tammy. I am 38yrs old. My husband Jason is 32yrs old. We both are recovering meth addicts. We had a great marriage until meth. I don't know how we made it thru. We both should be dead. We lost everything. our home, familys and ourselves. The fighting was unbeliveable daily he would drag me around by my hair hit me with whatever he got his hands on, but belive me I dished right back I remember hitting him with baseball bats 2x4's and whateverelse I could get my hands on.

We never argued before meth so this was all new to both of us but the dope controlled us. We always said the other one had the problem not me. We both had a problem. It took Jail to wake me up and the thought of losing me to wake him up.

I found God and he followed. Everyone has there own recovery but me my self could not have done with out he LOVE of GOD. He is my strength. Who ever needs help on both sides an addict of loved one of an addict put your faith and love in God and he will do the rest. It's still an everyday battle but we have been clean since 7/31/08. I've been on both sides as a mother and a wife and now a recovering addict.

Meth is the devil. I never understood how people could walk away from everything until I tried and instantly became an addict. My mom and mother-in-law Prayed for us daily. Don't give up on yourself or your loved one. Good Luck and God Bless!!

addicted to meth

Hi everyone so this is my story, When I was 21yrs old I met a guy that was 36yrs old. I thought he was great and fell deeply inlove with him. I did not know a thing about Drugs and was very anti drugs. We had alot of problems from the start that I ignored because I was inlove. He had a very bad anger problem and I was always wondering why he was on my A$S about nothing.

After close to year of being together I found these glass pipe. To my horror I found out that he was addicted to meth. Eventually I became involved in taking pills then moved onto my first try of meth by smoking it over the course of the next year I would try pills and meth every no and then. I started getting scared that I would turn into an addicted because by this time I had tried meth over 10 occasions ( a few times smoking then I started snorting).

I gradually stop taking ALL drugs because it was a weekend party thing for me but then I started getting really scared I would end up in a state that I saw most people I hung around with in. My partner still uses and has been a user for the past 15 years - Going by what he has told me. He is now 40 and says that he wants to stop. He is what you call a functioning addict - He has hels a job the 4 years we have been together and seems to hide it very well. Half the time I have know Idea when he is using.

He usaually stays home alot but once every so often he will want to go out with his friends to thos Rave parties. We used to go together but since I have no interest in Drugs he knows I would probably be a 'drag' to take to those places. My stand point is this if you really want to stop using meth - or any drugs you don't go and put yourself in a place where there would be people doing it. He says he really wants to stop this time and that 'he can feel' it is coming to end for him. I want to believe him but he is going off this weekend again to another Rave. It hurts like hell that I have been nothing but second place to everything in his life and I hate that I have put my life on hold for someone so much older than me who should know better.

I am only 25yrs old and I feel like I am 50. We are no longer living together because I want to see if he really will kick this Demon Drug out of his life for good. What really annoys me is that he says if he stops taking meth for good then he doesnt see anything wrong with taking a pill (extasy) 'every now and then' to 'let his hair down, because he works so hard and deserves it'.

I dont want to be around drugs anymore and I dont want to be with someone who does drugs either.

I am sick of the emotional and sometimes physical abuse I get inflicted on me simply because He wants to defend this demon. Are asked him recently dont you just want to have a normal relationship with me? He says Yes I really want us to work because I love you so much but you have to let me do this (quit) on my own when I am ready I told I can do that but I am not wasting another 4 years of my life waiting for him to get better so there has to be progress ASAP but he still wants to go to this Rave on the weekend!

I said that just shows you are not serious and he said that 'these things take time, I cant be cured in one day and I have already bought the ticket'. I just pray something will happen soon! Wether it be I get fed up for good and CUT HIM OFF OUT OF MY LIFE or he turns into one of the success stories. I just dont know but I cant play this game anymore. There is so much hurt he has done to me - it is so painful. I wouldnt even know if he has cheated on me and I dont know if I could handle it if he has...But I do know if I found out anything like that it would be the breaking point for me and I would be able to look at him again...and yes I do know that doing meth does feel like he is cheating on my with Tina...I am grateful that we have no children together because this is hard enough to deal with by myself ...

The confusing thing about it is that the user seems to have you convinced that they dont use as much which you in your heart cannot be true even if you can't pin point when it is happening you just have that 'gut feeling' it sucks . Thank you for listening.

My ex-husband is a meth addict. I was with him for 11 years, 5 of which he was in prison. I didn’t realize what an addictive personality he had when I married him and had a son with him. Like most women, I think I thought I could save him and make him a better person. Not that he isn’t a good person, but when he is doing drugs he is a completely different person.

Not ever doing any drugs myself I didn’t notice all the signs at first. It wasn’t until after months of drastic mood changes and behavior changes that he finally admitted to me what he was doing. The next 3 years after that got progressively worse. We had brought his 3 kids into our home as well as the son we had together. Not really having a mother in the picture, I felt we were finally giving them a good home where they could have some hope of turning into happy well adjusted kids.

Unfortunately my husband started using meth and that all went up in smoke. He would go off on all of us, especially me, for no reason. He would disappear all the time for hours. When there was a time where we were always together and always did things as a family, he no longer cared to be around us. When he was at home he was either acting like a jerk, or sleeping so hard you couldn’t wake him up for anything. He stopped sleeping in our bed and would spend all his time downstairs watching tv, usually porn.

He would work at a job for a month maximum, and then either quit or get fired and take his sweet time finding another job. I ended up having to get a 2nd job just to support our family of six. This didn’t stop him from writing checks for cash and overdrawing the account, or from spending money on drugs. The more I put up with it the worse it got. No matter what I did it didn’t matter. I could cry, scream, withdraw, beg it didn’t matter. I could issue ultimatums, have him go to marriage counseling, ask that he go to drug counseling, nothing I did worked.

Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and I kicked him out, for good this time. The last two years I have still tried to help him, even after he has threatened me and my family, cheated on me, stole from me, I still try to be there for him. I have gotten him into detox and rehab programs, which he never stays at. I have loaned him money, which he has never paid back. Everything I have tried doesn’t work. He is now in jail again, and I think he might be there for a while this time. At this point I have given up on him. I never thought I would say that, but I don’t know what else to do. I still love him, but it is almost like the love I feel for someone that has passed away. All my good memories of him are spoken about as if he wasn’t here anymore. I still tell my son, who is 5 now, that his daddy loves him but he is just sick right now and maybe one day when he gets better he can see him again. but in the meantime I have pretty much given up hope that he ever will get better.

I hope that anyone that thinks about doing meth, and especially if they have a family, to please think about the fact that you are not only hurting yourself, but you are putting your family through so much grief and pain that they will be scarred forever.

Methamphetamine, or simply called as "meth", is one of the many drugs today that causes the majority of addictions across the world. Nicknames for methamphetamine are numerous and vary significantly from region to region, some common nicknames for methamphetamine include "crank", "ice", "crystal", "glass", "shabu" or "syabu" (Philippines), "tik" (South Africa), "P" (New Zealand), "piko" (Slovakia), and "yaa baa" (Thailand). And as you can see, methamphetamine has been known as one of the widest drugs ever used for addiction. Though meth addiction treatment by use of medications is rarely successful, there are still those that use this method for the treatment of methamphetamine addiction.

Methamphetamin Addiction Treatments
As a way to increase the success of any meth addiction treatment, doctors are beginning to use other forms of amphetamine such as dextroamphetamine to break the addiction cycle in a method similar to the use of methadone in the treatment of heroin addicts. There are no publicly available drugs comparable to naloxone, which blocks opiate receptors and is therefore used in treating opiate dependence, for use with methamphetamine problems.

However, experiments with some monoamine reuptake inhibitors such as indatraline have been successful in blocking the action of methamphetamine. There are studies indicating that fluoxetine, bupropion and imipramine may reduce craving and improve adherence to treatment. Research has also suggested that modafinil can help addicts quit methamphetamine use.

Another drug currently in its experimental stage that is said to provide a successful meth addiction treatment is phenethylamine phentermine. Since the phenethylamine phentermine is a constitutional isomer of methamphetamine, it has been speculated that it may be effective in treating methamphetamine addiction. Phentermine is a central nervous system stimulant that acts on dopamine and norepinephrine, it has not been reported to cause the same degree of euphoria that is associated with other amphetamines.

Methamphetamine Withdrawal Treatments
Methamphetamine addiction is one of the most difficult forms of addictions to treat, particularly its withdrawal syndromes. Abrupt interruption of chronic methamphetamine use results in the withdrawal syndrome in almost 90% of the cases. Withdrawal of amphetamine often causes a depression which is longer and deeper than even the depression from cocaine withdrawal. Bupropion, aripiprazole, and baclofen have been employed to treat post-withdrawal cravings, although the success rate is low. Other successful drugs used for methamphetamine addiction includes:

* Modafinil: This medication is considered to be one of the most successful medications used for methamphetamine withdrawal, but this is a Class IV scheduled drug which is controlled and are not easily acquired.
* Ibogaine: This medication became successful in Europe as treatment for methamphetamine withdrawal, but is a Class I drug and available only for research use.
* Mirtazapine: This medication has been reported useful in some small-population studies.

When you take meth for the first time, you are susceptible to having bouts of nausea. The nausea you experienced was your body trying to eject the poisons
you ingested. That's what meth is: Poison. Some of the ingredients
of meth are: acetone; brake cleaner; denatured alcohol; drain opener;
ether; paint thinner; rubbing alcohol; match heads; and sulphuric or
muriatic acid.

A meth user would save him/herself a lot of money by simply tipping
back a bottle of Draino, eating the heads off some matches and, for a
dessert cordial, sipping some muriatic acid (the latter is used to
clean concrete). That way death would be swift without lengthy
suffering although *my* recomendation is DON'T CONTINUE INGESTING
THESE POISONS.

A couple of years ago while covering a murder trial for a mid-state
newspaper, I had the opportunity to witness the full effects of a man
addicted to meth. While waiting for the jury to come back, the
sheriff came and got me to come and see the man so I could see exactly
what meth addiction looked like and report it in my column.

I don't believe I've ever seen a thinner, more jittery nor
ashen-skinned human in my life. He was being questioned by the
sheriff while they waitied for an ambulance to transport him to the
hospital. His behavior was not even human; he jerked and jumped at the
slightest movement like a rabid animal, his speech was near to
incoherent, and his skin was the color of bleached concrete.

He was asked "When is the last time you slept?" and he shakily
answered that he thought it was "about two weeks ago." The ambulance
came, he was taken to the hospital and he later died during massive
convulsions.

Since you have recently introduced your body to this drug, I wanted
you to know what you could look forward to in the near future if you
continue to take it.

Hello, My name is Toni, and I am a meth addict. I had dabbled in drugs through out my life but then about 6 years ago I became a victim to Meth. I am a functioning addict, but now have a temper from hell. I went threw a brief rehab and that kept me clean for four months. I have always been so head strong and so independent that this makes me sick! I have never been controlled by anyone or anything, then came meth!

I am 52 years old and going to school to be an attorney, my husband of 9 years, is 38 and in the medical field. When we first met I was clean and had so much energy, Since then I got involved with meth and when I did stop I found I didn't the energy that I did even 6 years ago. I hated not being able to stay up late with my husband and do the things that we use to do. Not an excuse just the facts, when I went back to using I could stay up late and go for walks and ride motorcycles.

My husband says he would rather have me sleeping than to be back on the drugs. The complication behind all of this is money. You can't afford it and yet you can't afford to get off of it. With no insurance you are basically screwed. Attached is a letter to the editor of our local news press I was disappointed when it wasn't published because it was all the truth. I wish everyday that I could be sober like I was 6 years ago and live a life that I use to know. With laughter, and trust, love and tears.

With meth I am basically just num but I an awake. What a concept. When I first starting using it didn't seem to be as addictive, I don't know if it has changed over the years but I wish it was like it use to be. Hi, I am Shelly. I am 37, NEVER a meth user. Tried pot once and hated it. I have been married to my husband for 15 years and we've been together for 18. The only thing I have ever been addicted to was cigarettes and I dropped them like a hot potato one day, cause I felt like it. I just don't have an addictive personality

My stepdaughter is now 24. She had her first child at 19, my husband and I have custody of him now because of Meth. She started using Meth at 20. She went on a three year spree of sex, drugs alchol, adultry, stealing, dishonoring, etc. She never had a job or a place to lay her head for more than a week. She had her personal belongings all over the county.

You have DFCS involved, the police, people are calling all hours of the night looking for her. Your husband gone all hours looking for her. She'd stay gone. She didn't come around for 2 years. Then she'd come home, you'd fight with her and she's gone again. One day she came back and slept for a week. Then she'd leave again. It was a vicious cycle. One day I got a call from the school she graduated from and they said a lady in Maine, some 1000 miles away, had her HS diploma from a storage room auction. The lady mailed it back to me, I will keep it until my daughter is mature enough.

She had another child by her cousins husband at the age of 21. The baby was born addicted to Meth and mamed. She has acute asthma, a mamed foot and is being raised by her other grandmother, the fathers mother. The father was killed in a car accident when the baby was five months old. We don't get to see this baby. But I love her very much.

My stepdaughter will turn 25 in May, now is recovering from Meth going on 1 1/2 years with one slip up. I don't know if you count in between those or not. She has had another son that is 8 months old. Thank God she was clean throughout his pregnancy. She is raising him, and she still isn't fixed. She has been doing really good though. She and her boyfriend are really trying. But I still have her diploma. :-)

When my husband and I married in 1994, he was a heavy pot user and drinker. I didn't mind it so much, but I didn't like it either. My whole family was involved. How do you fight that battle when everyone is against your moral ideals? You pray. It has only been the past 5 to 6 years that I have literally hated being married. I often have wondered how I can be a Christian and believe in marriage so much. But all the prayer is paying off. It's just in God's time, not ours.

My own personal hell started in 2004, when I started noticing a huge change in my husband. Little did I know....The moodiness, depression, can't "get it up" and anxious attitude was all because of Meth. The same stuff he was trying to fight his own kid on! I started noticing him 'hiding' from me. Having a secret life. Staying in the basement room and catching him watching porno tapes. He'd fall asleep watching them and we have kids. I'd get so mad and we'd fight and scream. Nothing getting accomplished. It made me feel unwanted and that he thought of me as a whore when we did sleep together.

He didn't understand that when I'd tell him. His anger was awful. The secret phone calls and excuses to leave the house late at night. He was already working a 2nd shift job, so it just sorta fell into play that they call him in on his nights off. The thing with my husband is he has kept his job through all this and he eats regularly. He was always one to not sleep much, so that was hard to pin on him, when he was up for days at a time. Then one night before my sons baseball game, I see him take something from him truck and eat it. I wasn't sure what it was but I knew it wasn't good. He made a complete jerk out of himself that night in front of everyone. He was coaching 3rd base and my son didn't do exactly what he said and was tagged out, so he flys off the handle on my kid in front of everyone. I stood up, called my husband out on the field and ordered my son off the field. That night wasn't good. We fought loudly.

I began finding phone calls on his cell phone to local call girls, lots of them, but the calls only lasting 1 to 2 mins. Were they scheduling meetings. What!?!?!?!? I knew something was up and I didn't want to admit it. I felt so stupid and completely clueless on how to handle the situation. I didn't really believe in divorce. Why should I anyway, I loved the man. How was I supposed to do this alone anyway? I have never been without him in all my adult years. I didn't know who I was by myself. I would confront him and we would fight, cause he would lie. I would tell him he was a liar and we'd fight some more. The name calling was horrible. The days and nights of constant crying were exhausting. God was the only magnificant thing that kept me going.
Then I found the drugs. Whoo Hoo, I had him now. I had it in my hand... many times over the years. He couldn't deny, right?! Well, he did, everytime. He would lie and say it was someone else's, or that it was epsom salt or no no no, the best one was, get this...carpet cleaner. Yep, carpet cleaner. He even tried to pass it off one time as my stepdaughters and that he was working undercover for the cops! And that he was a narc to keep HER from going to jail. I have heard it all. Although she is a recovering meth addict herself, this was sick.

In 2005, he had a stroke. I was clueless that this stuff caused that to happen. Heck to my knowledge and his lies, he had quit. I heard the nurse tell him to lay off the street drugs. We fought some more. Although, he was paralyzed for a week that still didn't teach him to lay off the drugs. He was lucky and didn't even care.
In 2006, his father died of a heart attack. He has never been the same since. My family didn't spend Fathers Day or Christmas together that year with him. In 2007, we didn't spend any holiday at all together. In 2008, I had a partial husband. But still a heavy user. We had all the holidays. He lost his job on April 24, 2008.

I found out in January 2009 he uses Meth by shooting it up. The lumps on his arms are awful and ugly. He is deep in depression. The anger and hurt that he puts on us is hard to bear sometimes. I am so tired. It is so hard. I just don't know how much longer we can do this. Then one day, three weeks ago, there was different kind of prayer that came from me as I found him sleeping and that was the day of our Revelation. God said to me that this is my child. Love him as I do. And I did. I felt so overwhelmed with love I could not imagine life without him.

That morning, within an hour of my prayer and revalation my husband finally admitted selling and using to me! Me! Now he is on his second week of being clean. You have start somewhere right? He is sleeping anywhere between 16 - 19 hours a day. He is up long enough to eat, pee and do minor things around the house. His attitiude is better, but still awful. He is battling and I am going to battle with him. I love my husband. Please pray for my kids to hang in there. They still don't know.

I won't down play anything in our lives from Meth. It is a living hell. If hell had a symbol it is Meth. This is satan's drug. It will kill, steal and destroy everything in its path. It is relentless, unremorsefull, disgusting and plentifull. It will not ever go away, but we can conquer this evil drug. I just kept thinking that if this were my child, would I give up on him? Of course not! And this is my husband for crying out loud....for better or worse, sickness and health. I can't give up....I wouldn't want him to give up on me.

From Meth to Prison

I tried meth for the first time when I was about 21. Within five
months I was in prison with six felonie points, and two back to back
prison sentences. When I got out it didn't take long for me to move
up the ladder in the meth world and start cooking meth. Once again I was on my way back to prison.

I had a five year sentence, nine points and pending charges that had a sentence of 21 to 24 years. By the grace of God I wasn't convicted of the last charge. I served my time and moved away. For me relocation was the only way and it wasn't easy (especially the first year and a half). I have a good job now, just
came back from working in Hawaii. But I never fool myself into
thinking I can go home, because that is worse than a death sentence.
It is the rest of my life in prison. The end is always the same.
Everyone of us is worth more than that.

Acute Meth Problems - Some users of crystalmeth experience: 

    - delusional thinking, paranoid, violent behaviour
    - itching, welts on the skin
    - impulsive decision making
    - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
    - increased blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature and risk of stroke

hooked on meth-a detoxed addict's true confessions

In my much younger, bohemian days, I was hooked on meth. In fact, I used to inject it directly into my veins...
The thrill of the incredible "high" kept me hooked for years.

At that time, I was extremely thin and gaunt. The main reason for the dramatic weight loss is that meth ( and any other "stimulants" )
causes severe loss of appetite. I probably had many other dangerous
symptons of drug use, but I was too "out of it" at the time to notice.

Thank God I got out of the drug scene (and never returned to it) when I became pregnant with my eldest child. I'm lucky to be alive today. I sincerely hope that "pixiedust" heeds the warnings and advice from us all.

of all the questions i have been reading, this on sticks with me the
most. it is really easy for you to say no right now, but trust me, if
you keep "experimenting", it will not be your choice anymore...and
from that point on, it will be one regret after another... just
imagine laying on your death bed thinking your whole life was a
regret, and if you keep doing it, you will be laying there a lot
sooner than you thought.

This will destroy your family and crush anyone who truely loves you. These people you do meth with don't care about you one bit. You may think they do and they may even think they do, but people who care about you know that this kind of life only leads to one very lonley and very sad road with no way out, and they wont want to see you like this.

Meth has taken over his life

My son will be turning 29 next Sunday. I don't expect him to make it to 30.

Meth, has taken over his life and destroyed all of us. I try to remember when he was a boy now, when he was inoccent. Its hard, because the last 15 or more years with him have been hell. He tears the house apart and beats on everyone, including his ealderly grandparents who do everything for him. We run him off. He stays away sometimes for months. Even then you can't be at peace because you wait for the day someone tells you he is dead or he killed someone, or the day he shows back up.

He is nasty, hungry, usually sick. We clean him up, feed him. He promises he is off the stuff. He usually manages to get a car from us. New clothes, money. He is nice for a week or two, then it all starts again. The secretiveness. The anger. He starts about how we nearly let him starve to death or freeze to death. How we let him go homeless. on and on it goes. You just want him gone. But he really is gone. Because he isn't my son anymore.

He is a meth monster. Lee's body is still there but he has been gone so long. I would hate him, but I am so tired. I would miss him but I am so tired. I would beat him but I am so tired. I would look for him but I am so tired. I would feed him, but he probably isn't hungry for food right now. I been so busy cleaning up the last mess he left. I am so tired. I will wait for the call that he is dead. Then maybe I can rest. I Love my Son. Where ever he went.

A person with a drug addiction generally acts in an erratic manner and does things they normally wouldn't do. Their moods can be quite unpredictable alternating between bouts of exhilaration or agitation and then exhaustion and lethargy. They may have trouble sleeping or will "crash" and sleep for long periods of time.

Drug addiction is often accompanied by depression, so look for a loss of interest in activities they used to find enjoyable and an abrupt drop in weight. They may hesitate to participate in gatherings or family events and begin distancing themselves from people they used to be close to.

Eyes that are bloodshot or that have a dazed or expressionless look can be a sign of drug use and addiction. They may appear to be daydreaming and may have to be spoken to several times before they answer you.

Drug addiction can also have some outward physical signs such as excessive sweating, flushed skin, or an unexplained rash. Inflamed nostrils or an excessively runny nose can indicate an addiction to an opiate such as cocaine. People who use methamphetamine - or meth - will have a sudden and dramatic loss of weight. They may lose their teeth and will most likely have open sores on their bodies.

Recognizing drug addiction in yourself is a much harder process. Because most people don't want to admit that they have a problem, it's much more difficult to come to terms with an addiction problem.

You may find that you have an intense, uncontrollable craving for a drug and feel like you can't function without it. You always make sure that you have an ample supply of your drug of choice and become frantic when your supply starts running low. You might find yourself doing things you wouldn't normally do when using the drug such as stealing or being promiscuous.

Your drug addiction begins to take hold of your life and you see it spinning out of control with no way to stop. You try to stop using the drug but repeatedly fail causing you to use even more to combat the feelings of hopelessness.

Recognizing drug addiction is important in so many ways. When addiction is present in your or someone you love's life, it can affect your relationship sometimes so badly it can never be recovered. That's why it's essential that the healing start once you begin to recognize how the addiction has taken hold. Once you see the signs, you can get help and become drug free!

Meth and Teeth

My meth-using daughter has perfect teeth, so far. I know she knows that meth is really bad for your teeth, she always says "no big deal I can always get false teeth" she probably thinks she isn't going to live long enough for her teeth to go. Lately she has been buying Sensodyne toothpaste. Has anybody else done that? I know that her teeth are probably the least of her worries, but sometimes I find myself obsessing about it, I mean this kid has a set of teeth people would kill for.

She is 21 and I think she has only ever had 1 or 2 cavities and one was in her baby teeth. As a mother you are so used to being able to take care of and protect your child. There are things you can do and things you cant. You take them to the doctor and the dentist. You make sure they get good nutrition. You encourage them in their interests, you teach them right from wrong.

When they get older and are using meth everything just gets crazy for them and as a mother you feel like you have been hit by a giant bolder, the constant worry nearly consumes you. I have gone to counselors and most of them say "let go" "move on" "live your life" but for so many years she was my life. She was my only child for 7 1/2 years and then I had my second daughter. How do I just move on? I hurt all the time. I try to reach out to her but she would rather I stay away. I don't know what I am trying to say here. I started with the teeth and I just started to vent. My husband has bad teeth because of meth, he brushed daily, actually he tweeked out on brushing...it was crazy. But now, they are so bad, let her know that getting false teeth isn't real easy, he has no dental, so they are quoting to him about $5,500, by the time its all said and done. My teeth in back are bad, the ones in front are pretty good, so I'm taking care of them...I've had a few pulled in the back... Maybe with her buying the sensodyne toothpaste, it is making her realize what she is doing... Just take it as a positive...ya know what I mean..? I think another reason that tweekers have trouble with their teeth is b/c of the sugar addiction they develop, unless they are lucky enough to stay constantly high. If not, if there is any lapse in use, most meth users crave sugar-y foods.

I was wondering if meth users are aware of the reason for them being so tired and sleeping after using for a while. Or do they lose the ability to attribute any negative physical effects to the use of the drug? My step daughter was so out of it yesterday that she pretty much fell asleep every time she sat down. Then she said, "I don't know WHY I am so tired. I think I've run myself down by being so busy." and later on, "Can depression make someone this sleepy? I know I have depression..."

She actually sounded like she didn't KNOW why she would be so tired. It's hard for me to understand how she couldn't see what is so obvious. Is it possible that, with enough use, they truly don't make the connection between the high and why they crash afterwards?

I actually might beg to differ.

When I was all messed up, I honestly, honestly, honestly believed that my being tired, deranged, disorganized, etc. had to do with "having ADD". My roommate recognized this as bullshit, but when she tried to tell me that it's probably the METH that is wiping me out, I honestly, honestly, honestly thought that she was wrong.

Cause you know, meth "helps" not hurts, right?
Sure, I was lying to myself, but I didn't realize it. I was believing the meth lies.

Remember, it's never meth's fault, it's never our bag that your found (we are holding it for a friend, duh!), and no one can possibly understand our terminally unique plight.

Most racing fans are far too familiar with this story by now. The saga started in May of 2009 when NASCAR driver and team owner Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for the use of methamphetamines. He was promptly suspended and his racing team began to fall apart. At the beginning of July, a US District Court Judge granted a temporary injunction that allowed Mayfield to continue racing. Unfortunately, he couldn't find any sponsors and has been plagued with severe financial problems that have rendered him unable to race.

In the latest twist, Mayfield once again failed a random drug screening on July 6th, just 5 days after his reinstatement. His injunction has since been lifted and he has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR.

All throughout the debacle, Mayfield has claimed that he has never used illegal drugs and NASCAR is out to get him. He has accused the organization of falsifying drug test reports. Jeremy's wife and crew have adamantly denied that he has ever used drugs.

Mayfield's representatives have declared that the drug tests produced false positives caused by his use of Claritin. This has been disputed by NASCAR due to the high levels of banned substances that were found during his initial screening. The results from his second screening showed a high concentration of water in his urine, indicating that he consumed an excess amount of clear liquids in an attempt to beat the test.

Mayfield's stepmother has recently been in the news after giving a statement that claims on a number of occasions she personally witnessed his methamphetamine use dating all the way back to 1998. His parents attempted to intervene because they worried that his drug use was getting out of control.

I understand that most sports often discipline athletes for using performance enhancing substances, but those types of guidelines don't really directly correlate to the sport of NASCAR. It is refreshing to see that they are attempting to rid the sport of recreational drug users. These drivers are role models for young people all over the world and should behave as such.

Thankfully, it appears that the Mayfield saga has finally reached its end. Jeremy is quickly losing public support as he throws out all of these wild accusations against the NASCAR organization. He publicly denounced his own stepmother in an extremely disrespectful manner using language that I refuse to repeat. At the end of the day, this man will have to live with his mistakes and bear the burden of the consequences.

My brother is a Meth addict. This has been going on for a year-and-a-half now and I feel so alone, angry, resentful, sad etc. I have seen what Meth has done personally to, my once awesome brother! Meth has taken my brothers soul and my brother told me last year the brother I knew is gone and this is the life that was meant for him. I am so mad that this drug was invented!

This drug is the devil's dream drug that takes souls and leaves us with a mess to try to live with. If Meth users think they are only hurting themselves and they don't bother anyone else, they are wrong. They're out getting high and numbing their pain while their sister, brother, mother, father and the whole family sits, day in and day out, trying to find help for them. Just to live and breathe because they love that person so much. I have to get up with my broken heart every morning and wonder if today is the day my family and I will be preparing for my brother's funeral. I hate Meth so much because it is not only destroying my brother but it has destroyed our once close family! We pray too, but there are days that you just feel like giving up!

My brother used to be so into his family and he was an achiever. My brother bought his first house when he was 21. He owned a very nice home, car, truck, boat, and many other things. He was a very preppy, well-kept, clean young man. He was so tight with his money and I realized it was because he had goals and dreams. He married a beautiful girl and had a beautiful baby boy. What more could anyone want? The family started noticing changes and patterns. For example, he would not go into work on Mondays and his wife said he never seemed to sleep all weekend. He would be redoing his kitchen, painting, yard work, anything he could do to stay busy, and never wanted to eat. He couldn't sleep and everyone knows that isn't normal. I don't know how my brother got involved with Meth and I am sure I will never know.

My brother is only 30 years old. He admitted he was doing Meth last summer, just so he could finish his projects around the house and prepare the nursery for the baby. He said he could stop any time he wanted. Well, our family wouldn't hear of it and got him into detox and eventually rehab. Thank goodness my brother had an excellent job and great insurance. We pressured my brother to go which we now know was a mistake. An addicted person has to want to go on their own free will and lose everything they have ever worked so hard for before they actually realize they are spinning out of control. My brother got out of rehab and he went full force into Meth. It was as if he was trying to punish us. It still doesn't make sense to me.

My brother is associating with the most disgusting, filthy people I never knew existed until now. But Meth doesn't care who you hang out with. I have seen what types of people Meth users are, and it scares me. I feel as if I walked into hell. I am not a judgmental person, but anyone that has seen what I have, would be frightened. His house is in foreclosure, his beautiful wife and baby left, he lost his job, all because of a stupid drug. Meth has taken the place of me and my family in his life. I am so angry, but I won't give up on praying for him.

The Meth user is numbing and masking their pain and the only time they feel anything is when they come down and search for more Meth. We feel the pain all the time. My brother isn't actually dead, but he is gone. I will never see my brother the way he used to be. Meth doesn't care who you are, how much money you have, or anything else. You try it once and Meth will take control of your life.

addicted to Meth

There was a time when I knew my little girl. I knew she liked unicorns and fairies, cookies and milk, and birthdays with cake. But now...now I don't know her at all.

She got hooked on Meth. I always thought it wouldn't happen to my daughter. That she was smart and nothing bad would happen to her. It turns out that I didn't know anything at all.

We thought our daughter was on her way to great things. While we had a rough time with her when she was 15-16yrs old, things had smoothed out and she had close to a 4.0 GPA in High School. She had a semester of college completed before graduating high school and had a scholarship.

Our daughter recently turned 20. She moved out to live with her boyfriend about a year and half ago. About 9 months ago her boyfriend got fired from his job. Soon after that he lost a lot of weight and we thought he was just bummed out about his job. About a month later, our daughter lost a bunch of weight (she's tiny anyway). Both of them began getting acne on their face. She quit school saying no classes were being offered that she needed to complete her degree.

We noticed subtle changes in her, like being on the internet/ebay a lot, talking about them buying a house together that cost over $100,000 when neither of them had a job, jumping from topic-to-topic and speaking fast. Then she began coming in late for work. Within a month and a half, she was late over 20 times; not just a few minutes late, but sometimes hours late. She was working for me at the time and on at least three occasions her mother had to go to her apartment to wake her up. The morning I went she was soaked in sweat. I couldn't get her to go to the doctor. I ended up firing her about 5 months ago...now neither she nor her boyfriend has a job. She claimed they were fixing things for people or buying broken items and fixing them to sell for a profit.

About 3-4 months ago, her hair started falling out. She claimed she burned her head and pulled it out herself. We knew we had to do something but were unsure how to proceed. With encouragement and support from friends, we intervened and took her to inpatient psychiatric treatment. To do this we had to fill out affidavits so she could be committed. Fortunately she signed herself in voluntarily. At first she denied using Meth, then she admitted to having used it in the past. When confronted that it was still in her system she said she could control her use and could quit anytime. She tested positive for Meth and had lost about 25 pounds. She had the "Meth look" (sunken in eyes, weight loss, hair loss, gaunt/tired).

She is now in residential drug rehab. She tells us she loves us and knows we did this because we love her and care, but she is currently refusing to let us visit her. Much to our disappointment, she is allowing her boyfriend to visit. She admitted to us that they are/were both using. We had to get an exparte' against him and our junior-high aged son is terrified; checking locks and always looking over his shoulder. Our hope is that with continued therapy she will gain some insight and make better decisions, but I know it's a long road to recovery. I started going to a support group. We are seeking guardianship over her until she gets through all of the treatment. We know that the chance of relapse is high, we aren't fooling ourselves, but we feel we need to do everything in our power to help her. Beyond that it's up to her.

It breaks my heart to see the young lady that I love so much, that was a happy, healthy little girl, grow up to abuse and become addicted to Meth. I despise Meth.

I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones,even after the fact I lost all I loved and all who loved me,three times.Ive had and lost more Bikes, HotRods,Guns,cash and things then ten average honest working men will ever know.

METH it seemed so harmless I could accomplish so many tasks in a single day I had the best lawn on the block,the cleanest car,I coached 2 baseball teams a year for my children for 9 seasons and still hold the record for the most winning coach in the league,I worked 8 hrs. a day and owned a after market American motorcycle shop,looking from the outside in I had it all.The parents from my teams loved me the other coaches respected the Longhaired Biker everything seemed perfect.

No one knew I was always looking in the rearveiw mirror cops were tring to make a buy everyday and back then the drug didnt sell itself you had to compete with cocaine, acid and it just had no value to the average drug user untill they tried it.

Probably the most detrimental myth about his drug is the idea that it is not addictive. Users of this drug will equate it to a potent caffeine-type substance, and in some ways they are correct. Methamphetamine and caffeine are both stimulants, but that is were the similarities end. A drug can be addictive at the psychological or physical level or both. However, all psychologically addictive drugs have a physical addictive component as well. The level of addiction is directly related to the amount of discomfort one experiences during abstinence from the drug. Everyone is familiar with the headaches that one can get when they have been drinking coffee on a regular/daily basis and then they abruptly stop.

Teens are prone to experiment with drugs and alcohol, and parents can only do so much to protect their kids from the dangers that lurk outside of the home, but neither are teens unresponsive to drug education and those teens that do get the facts about meth are far less likely to report positive associations with the drug, and far less likely to risk addiction with casual experimentation.

The job falls to parents to do a better job teaching kids of the dangers of meth and warning them of the ease of addiction, and the lifelong battle that would then ensue. We won’t beat meth in this country overnight, but we could do a lot to better the problem just by getting informed and speaking with our kids about real dangers of the drug(How to beat a meth addiction).

A teen meth addiction is surely every parent's worst nightmare, and of all the drugs out there--and there are some very destructive intoxicants--meth is by far the worse, by far the most addictive, and by far the most destructive.

It's time to take action. Today, it's time to insist on stiffer laws. It's time to take away the power from those who want you to feel powerless. It's time to take back the lives that meth has destroyed and make sure the war this drug has started comes to an abrupt end. However, no one can do it alone. Communities have to strike back and insist on tougher penalties for those who use and those who make Crystal Methamphetamines. Until then, no one will be safe from the reach of the drug that destroys, tortures, ruins, and defects--no one.

Reflecting this, today's teens are very ill informed as to the real dangers of meth use, and a recent study commissioned by the Meth Project (a non profit group) found that about one in three teens did not see much harm in experimenting with the drug, and an even scarier 25% even saw some benefits to meth use (weight loss, and enjoyment).

How to keep kids safe

There are a number of things that parents can do to keep kids safe from meth, but everything needs to start with a dialogue that continues throughout the years about the dangers of meth.

Additionally, parents need to stay involved and active in their teen's life and make sure they are close and involved enough to be ready to spot any signs of drug or alcohol abuse, and if so, to get help at the earliest possible opportunity.

Parents need to make clear the family policy on drug and alcohol, discuss the reasons for your concerns, and also the consequences for breaking the family no-substance use policy. Parents also need to set a good example, and kids are quick to spot a hypocrite; and don't often listen to a "do as I say and not as I do" type of parent.

Parents can set a good example by using alcohol only in moderation, and by never using illegal drugs. There are no guarantees

There are no guarantees, and every time your teen leaves the house they step into a world of danger and temptation. All you can do is give them the tools they need to stay drug free, educate them as to the dangers, and stay involved enough to be able to spot a problem at the earliest possible opportunity.

You do your best and hope for the best; but if you don't talk to your kids about the dangers of meth, you are taking a very big gamble with their health and happiness.
